Popular Wedding Trends – Detail Shots
You've seen them online, you might've seen them at a friend's wedding, now how do you incorporate them into your wedding day?
Bridal Details
When searching through wedding photography, you might've noticed these shots of carefully arranged items showcasing some of the bride's belongings that she wore on her wedding day. These shots will oftentimes be a birds-eye view of a delicate arrangement as well as close-ups of the items. On a wedding day, these are referred to by photographers as “detail shots”. Now how can this be achieved on your wedding day?
Your photographer will do all the work! All you need to do ahead of time to make the progress smooth is to figure out what items from your bridal preparation are important to you, which you would like showcased, and/or hold sentimental value. The following are items brides often choose to incorporate in their detail shots.
-Jewelry (bracelets, necklaces, earrings, engagement ring, family heirloom jewelry)
-Perfume Bottle
-Wedding Shoes
-Garter(s)
-Wedding invitations/ wedding programs/ save the dates
-Vow Books
-Veil
Groom Details
Very similar to bridal prep, should a photographer be capturing your groom's prep, it is very handy to have any special items set aside if you would like a detail shot of their items as well. Grooms usually do not have as many items they would like photographed but it is not uncommon for there to be sentimental details you might not have thought of that your photographer can capture. Below are a couple of examples of items we incorporate in our Groom details.
-Cologne bottles
-Wedding shoes
-Cufflinks -Tie / Bowtie
-Wedding rings
-Vow Books
- Handkerchief
-Socks (oftentimes Grooms will have personalized or silly socks)
You've chosen these items, what's next?
Simply set these items aside in a special box or bag and bring those on your wedding day. In order to take one more thing off your mind that day, I would suggest assigning a person (such as a family member or your maid of honor) to know where these items will be located during your bridal preparation and hand them to your photographer upon their arrival. (Note: Grooms usually do not set these items aside but it is helpful they are aware they may be needed for the photographer if Groom prep is being captured)
Additional Tips
*Make sure to set enough time for your photographer when capturing your prep so that they can have a moment to take shots of your details and dress. I suggest allocating 30 minutes for this
